AGGRESSION
In association with La Maison de Fay
St Paul's Church, Covent Garden
London 13-14/10/11

Observing the marks left by acts of aggression, Arno contributes pensive documentations of these acts. From the scars on a fist to a cityscape from modern Europe, the works capture what is left behind, and ask what we see of not only the past, but the future. On the face of it a landmark in ‘Topography of Terror, Berlin 2011’ is a relic from the cold war: a section of the Berlin wall, demolished when the GDR and Soviet Union crumbled. Yet the location of this section of the wall is a marker for a greater terror in the 20th century history of Berlin and Europe, and when examined the seemingly simple cityscape explores not only the markers and monuments to aggression, but also the frailty of humanity and the ever present slow motion onslaught of nature and time.
